LONG LONG TIME AGO, also known as 我们的故事, is a local Singaporean movie directed by Jack Neo that chronicles the trials and triumphs of a family from 1965 to the early 1970s. Set against the backdrop of Singapore’s early growth, the story follows the family’s journey from kampong life to HDB living, mirroring the nation’s own transformation.

On 9 August 1965, Zhao Di, played by Aileen Tan, is driven from her husband’s home and gives birth to twins, Shun Fatt and Su-mei, the latter born with two moles on her face, considered a sign of misfortune. Pressured by family traditions, Zhao Di reluctantly gives Su-mei away. This marks the beginning of many hardships, yet Zhao Di’s indomitable spirit drives the family forward. Over the years, they persevere through social and economic changes, witnessing the nation’s growth alongside their personal struggles.

Our team contributed VFX and 3D animation to both parts of the movie, enhancing key sequences and recreating the evolving landscapes from kampongs to HDB estates. Digital enhancements were applied to period environments, crowd scenes, and transitions, ensuring historical authenticity while supporting storytelling. The 3D animation and visual effects added depth and immersion, allowing viewers to experience the emotional and physical transformations of both the family and the nation.

LONG LONG TIME AGO is a nostalgic and heartfelt cinematic journey celebrating resilience, family, and Singapore’s early growth, brought vividly to life through VFX and 3D animation.
