The Worlds of Georgette Chen is a three-part docudrama presented by National Gallery Singapore, celebrating one of Singapore’s most beloved artists, Georgette Chen (1906–1993). Commissioned by the Gallery ahead of its opening, the series brings Chen’s remarkable life and artistic legacy to contemporary audiences, highlighting her journey across three continents and four major cities.
Produced by Channel NewsAsia, the docudrama features MediaCorp’s acclaimed actress Rui En portraying Georgette, delivering a performance that captures the artist’s struggles, triumphs, and the dramatic twists of her life. Through cinematic storytelling, visually rich production design, and evocative performances, the series immerses viewers in the worlds that shaped Chen’s art, making her story both engaging and relevant for today’s audience.
The series has received international recognition, including a Silver Award for Best TV & Film Documentary at the New York Film Festival 2016, and a Finalist nod for Best Production Design / Art Direction, reflecting the high caliber of its visual and narrative craftsmanship.
With its compelling mix of historical insight, dramatic narrative, and cinematic artistry, The Worlds of Georgette Chen not only honors the legacy of a pioneering Singapore artist but also brings her vision and creative spirit vividly to life for a new generation of viewers.
